Updated Feb 2025
New Features include:
Dual Differential Cut option
The outer shell is wider and longer than the inner. This allows you to press your knees, toes or elbows against opposite sides, tensioning the inner layer in the process, but without fully compressing the down like you would with a non-differential cut quilt.
Updated Pad Attachment System
The Diamondback’s new Pad Attachment system now uses the widely popular center-release buckles (aka wafter clips) and 5/8″ elastic webbing. Comes with one straight strap and one looped strap and has 2 clips on each side of the quilt.
New WideMouth Footbox option
In addition to sewn and zipper/drawcord footbox options we now offer a Widemouth option. For this option we have changed the shape of the sewn footbox end-panel from a circle to an optimized oval-ish shape. The foot end circumference measurement stayed the same at 42″, but the new shape has a significantly wider diameter allowing for more foot splay, bigger feet, more space between your ankles… a much roomier feeling footbox in general. If you have a foot size that is US size 10 or under and want a snugger feeling footbox option, select the “Round” footbox option instead. Just like before the Zippered/Drawstring footbox option comes with an attached down draft plug to seal the cinch hole.
New Down Options
We currently offer 850-fill Expi-Dry Gold PFC/PFAS free DWR, RDS certified Premium Duck down.
Fill Weight changes
Slight increase to most fill weights. The fill amounts are generous resulting in conservative temperature ratings. Overfill options are still available for those wanting more. Fill tolerance to within 5g of the advertised fill weight
Drawstring location
We moved the dual neck shockcord adjustment points from back behind your head, up slightly closer to your ears where they are easier to adjust.
Sizing changes
The Short now fits a user 5’9″ and under, the Regular fits someone 6’1″ and under and the Long 6’5″ and under.
Some features were great just the way they were and remain unchanged from the first generation, those include:
Width options
The Diamondback keeps the same 50″, 55″ and 60″ width options. For reference, the 55″ wide model will be 55″ wide from about your elbows to just past your hips, from there it tapers slightly toward the foot and head ends(compound taper) The 55″ option adds a 2.5″ wide baffle onto both sides, while the 60″ adds a 5″ baffle to both sides, this extra pair of baffles runs from the top of the quilt to just above the footbox gusset and is tapered. By adding extra width only where it’s needed these side baffles are shorter and lighter, giving you extra width with less weight penalty.
Fabric options
15d Ripstop Nylon Quilt fabric in a variety of colors with PFC/PFAS free DWR. This fabric is an absolutely awesome combination of light, durable, and comfortable. Camo options are printed on a very slightly heavier 20d Polyester ripstop fabric that also makes for a great quilt. If you are ordering an “Original cut” quilt and are interested in any of the 10d fabrics, simply select the 15d version of the color you want and let us know you want 10d using the order notes at checkout, then immediately contact us via email and mention it as well. (10d color options are Black, Olive green, Fern green, Ocean blue and Purple)
Included stuffsac (0.5oz-0.85 oz) plus a Large Mesh storage bag
ASE Adjustable Side Elastics. (elastic shockcord and cordlock on the quilt’s long sides to make sure it stays tucked under you). This has been a super popular option for both hammockers and ground sleepers alike, it works so well that for some people it alleviates their need for the pad attachment kit
Draft Collar option
We offer an optional tapered draft collar. It tapers from low profile behind your head to nice and extra fat up front where you need it. You can simply flip it to the inside of the quilt if it’s not needed.
The Diamondback uses our unique Constriction-Point Baffle pattern that uses a series of constrictions in the baffle pattern to isolate both halves of the quilt. The baffle wall height remains the same, but the width of each baffle abruptly merges to a constriction point, effectively breaking a single 6-foot long baffle into two 3-foot baffles, resulting in one of the shortest effective baffle lengths in the industry. A shorter baffle means the down has less room to shift so it will take you less time to fluff and even out the down before each use. The down in the upper part of the quilt stays in the upper part and vice versa. Down can be manually forced through the constrictions but it will not pass through on it’s own, this means the distribution of down between the lower vs. upper chambers stays consistent with use and can be manipulated by the customer if desired. Since the upper and lower chambers are filled independently of each other, overfill can be installed into either the upper or lower chambers or split evenly between them.
