Have questions? like what is the difference between the different fabric weights? or double layer vs single? or what the best model is for your weight?  Check out our “Hammocking 101” page in our “Learn” section for answers to these questions and more. Also check out the “Blackbird setup” video and our updated set up instructions.

Not sure the difference between the different suspension options? Check out our “Suspensions” video in our video section to see them in action

The Blackbird XLC is a larger up-graded version of the Blackbird,  It has all the same standard features as the Blackbird such as choice of suspension, built-in bug netting, shelf/footbox, but in addition the XLC is about 12″ longer having a hammock body roughly 132″x 63″ with an overall length(ridgeline length) of 111″ which gives you about 11 inches of tarp overlap at each end of the hammock if using an eleven foot tarp. The XLC is rated for a user up to 7’0″.  The netting is fully removable, you have the option to purchase an optional winter Topcover that can be used in place of the netting in winter time, the Topcover is a breathable fabric matching the hammock body, it will trap about 15 deg of heat compared to the outside air temps, so it is particularly useful for those that do lots of cold weather camping. Like the hammock fabric itself, the Topcover made of breathable fabric that has a DWR water “resistant” treatment, it will shed light moisture, but is not waterproof and is not a replacement for a tarp. The XLC is available in several fabric types and also with a single layer body or a double layer body, the double layer increases the weight capacity and is also recommended for anybody using a pad as bottom insulation, you place the pad between the 2 layers which helps hold the pad in place and keeps it from sliding around.

The XLC features one continuous zipper that runs the perimeter of the hammock body, The XLC is converted into a simple Traveler-style hammock by simply removing the zippered top anytime it’s not needed.

Like the standard Blackbird, the XLC includes the very popular storage shelf and footbox.  The storage shelf is aprox. 2 square feet in size and great for small and med sized items (pair of shoes, water bottle, glasses etc).  The XLC also includes a footbox which allows the user to fully use/extend the hammock fabric in the foot area without restriction from the netting, the result is maximum leg room.  The hammock can be setup on the ground as a bug bivy if needed, just be sure to use a groundcloth to protect the bottom of the hammock from water and abrasion.

The XLC comes with 2 elastic lines, one on each side of the hammock, these are used mainly to pull the netting out and away from the user, and to support the shelf, you can fully remove or leave these cords un-staked whenever it’s convenient, they are not required to use the hammock.

All our hammock models come with your choice of suspension, “Webbing/Buckles A.K.A Adjustable Webbing Suspension” or “Whoopies with tree straps”.  Check out our video section and look for the video titled “Hammock Suspension Differences” to see both these suspensions in action.

Included: The XLC comes with your choice of suspension, elastic side-guylines, built-in bug netting, storage-shelf, footbox, and stuffsac.  Carabiners and tent stakes are sold separately in our accessories section. The optional winter Topcover can be added using the dropdown menu.  The Winter Topcover is not sold individually, it must be purchased with the hammock to ensure a proper fit.

Also: we sometimes have slightly belmished topcovers that will fit the current hammocks, these are listed in the promotions section with the other blems if they are available currently… just email us and ask if you’d like a blem topcover instead

Absolutely love it, quick set up. Even quicker teardown.
I have a permanently dislocated shoulder and was worried if I’d be able to sleep in this hammock. After my first night I had no worries. Slept great.
Also very stable for getting in and out of.
    Definetly makes my tent obsolete.

The first time a spent the night in any hammock was in the Warbonnet Blackbird that a friend loaned me on an overnight backpacking trip. I dare say I have never slept better in the woods. I am a side and back sleeper and was able to turn with ease, never feeling unstable. And it’s so roomy! I always thought sleeping in a hammock would be like being in a cocoon, but not so in the Blackbird. I never felt confined. My only regret is that I didn’t go to bed earlier!

The storage shelf is perfect for keeping your essentials organized and available through the night. And the footbox is great. I never felt restricted when I stretched out.

I went in a bit of a skeptic, but am amazed at how incredibly comfortable the Blackbird is.

My tent is going to take second place to this new way of sleeping outdoors. I look forward to researching the options and buying my own hammock setup.

I originally purchansed two WB Blackbirds, one for me and one for my then wife. She had back problems that made our camping trips less and less fun for her over the years. We tried thicker backpads, air mattresses and nothing worked.

A friend suggested hammocks. He said that the only reason he can still camp is because he switched to a hammock. After a little research I went with the BB. After the first night I asked my wife how she felt and she said “I haven’t slept this well since I was in my mother’s womb”, I agreed that it was incredibly comfortable. After our divorce she took one of the Blackbirds so I decided to upgrade to the XLC and keep the other Blackbird as an extra for any future camping partners. It was even more comfortable than the original Blackbird because it was more roomy.

As with the original Blackbird, the footbox and shelf are great features. I keep a water bottle, a book and flashlight on the shelf.

My one complaint is the lack of a double zipper, as with the regular Blackbird. I know the single zipper is needed to make the insect net removeable, but removing the net is an uneeded feature for me. The way the regular BB’s net swigs out of the way is just fine with me.

Minor complaint though. Otherwise this is an outstanding hammock. It’s so comfortable sometimes I wish I could get rid of my bed and just hang this in my bedroom. Maybe some day.

Just used my xlc hammock. WOW! It is totally fabulous in size and comfort compared to my previous hammock. The winter top cover stayed incredibly dry inside compaired to the condensation outside. The fabric quality is second to non. This is a top end hammock. Thank you to Brandon at warbonnet.

I doubt Warbonnet needs yet another glowing review on the BB XLC, but here it is. I got mine in less than a week along with a Mambajamba. They are both fantastic. Great lie. Very useful features. Comfortable and built by people that know hammocks. I am a big boy and I feel comfortable, secure and have plenty of room to stretch out lengthwise and widthwise. What more do you want.
