The Yeti is 40”W x 46”L and covers from shoulders to knees on a 6’ user. It features a dual differentially cut shell, trapezoidal shaped variable-width curved baffles, and is overstuffed with 850+ fill goose down. We also offer a deluxe version that has 3 snaps along each long side so you can snap on a removeable liner. The liner is both heat reflective and a vapor barrier, and should be good for an additional 5-10 deg. temperature boost beyond the stated rating of the underquilt when attached. The shell of the Yeti is black dwr. (durable water resistant finish). We decided not to provide coverage under the head area, in cooler weather you’ll need a warm hat and probably a small pillow no matter what size underquilt you use. Since the hat/pillow combo functions as top and bottom insulation for your head, a longer torso quilt is not needed for that function.
The differential cut means that the inner shell is signifigantly smaller than the outer shell so that the inner shell gets pulled tight to the bottom of the hammock without tightening the outer shell or compressing the insulation in the process, this is a very important feature to look for in an underquilt.
The yeti is also asymmetrically shaped to better fit the user laying in the diagonal position. There is extra room in the left shoulder area and the ends are tapered. The resulting shape makes the most efficient use of the quilts dimensions allowing it to provide maximum coverage for its size. The ends are tapered so that they do not need to be cinched and gathered. This avoids the creation of an air pocket just behind a cinched edge. A small draft tube is also incorperated at each end to ensure a gasket like fit to the bottom of the hammock. We use a slightly heavier suspension than some quilts which results in about an oz of additional weight, but it allows the quilt to fit better to the bottom of the hammock by facilitating the shaped design and allows the quilt to be mobile.
